SUMMARY:SBSPCR extension lectures by Prof. Diwakar Acharya
DESCRIPTION:SBSPCR conducted a series of Extension lectures by Prof. Diwakarnath Acharya\, Spalding Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at the University of Oxford as a part of the courses named ‘Sources of Indian Knowledge Tradition: Sūtra\, Vārtika & Bhāṣya’ offered to the III semester students and ‘Vālmīki-Rāmāyaṇa: Textual and Thematic Study’ offered to the II semester students of M.A. in Hindu Studies (Sanātana). The lectures were conducted virtually on 13th and 14th February 2023\, 17th March 2023\, 12th and 18th April 2023.

SUMMARY:Educational field trip to Bodhgaya
DESCRIPTION:An educational field trip to Bodhgaya was organised on 01.04.2023 for Students by the SBSPCR. About twenty-five students and three faculty members participated in this trip. \nVisit to Dungeshwari cave \nThe group visited Dungeshwari by taking a small hilly trail to visit the Buddhist cave temples. A brief talk on a description of the historical and cultural importance of the cave temple and the place was given to the students. After this visit\, the group departed for Bodhgaya. \nMahabodhi temple and Meditation under the Bodhi tree \nThe group received a warm welcome at the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee reception centre. The Temple Management Committee arranged a visit to the Mahabodhi temple. Meditation under the Bodhi tree was conducted\, and a group had a guided visit to the temple and its surrounding area. \nVisit to Tara Temple: \nThe group then visited Tara Temple and Kagyu Monastery in the afternoon. A talk on the practice of Tara by the founder and head of the Tara temple\, Bodhgaya\, followed this. Students attentively participated in the talk and discussions. \nThe students were exposed to one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage centres and its history\, landscape\, monuments\, and sculptures through this trip. They also witnessed the rituals conducted by Tibetan monastics and participated in the meditations.

SUMMARY:SBSPCR extension lectures by Prof. Haramohan Mishra
DESCRIPTION:The School of Buddhist Studies\, Philosophy and Comparative Religions conducted a series of Extension Lectures on Kashmir Śaivism and Bodhapañcadaśīkā of Abhinavagupta which forms a module in the course ‘Comparative Readings of Religious Texts (Selections from Vaiṣvism\, Śaivism and Buddhist texts) of the students of 2nd Semester of M.A. in Buddhist Studies\, Philosophy and Comparative Religions. Prof. Haramohan Mishra\, an exponent of the field of Kashmir Shaivism\, delivered lectures on the philosophy of Kashmir Śaivism and the contribution of Abhinavagupta on 11th April 2023 and taught the text Bodhapañcadaśīkā (fifteen verses on wisdom) of Abhinavagupta on 12th and 19th April 2023. He also provided his English translations of the text Bodhapañcadaśikā to the students.
