M.A Archaeology

About the Program

The M.A. Archaeology was conceptualized recognizing the growing need for a specialized curriculum to train both Indian and international students in archaeological research, fieldwork, and heritage conservation. The program aims to equip students in archaeological survey, scientific digging, artifact classification, digital mapping, dating methods, soil collection methods, field data analysis and interpretations using cutting-edge technology for a successful career in archaeology and cultural heritage management. The program integrates interdisciplinary approaches and enable students with comprehensive knowledge of archaeology, preparing them to contribute to identify, study, and preserve the cultural heritage of diverse regions of India and the world.

Program Structure
The Master in Archaeology program is a two-years, full-time residential program. The program consists of four semesters of coursework, each covering wide range of topics, including both core and elective courses. The program is comprehensive and rigorous and designed to provide students with extensive knowledge of both the practical and theoretical aspects of Archaeology. The curriculum covers a wide range of methodologies to identify potential archaeological sites, scientific digging, digital mapping, artifact and soil collection methods, documentation methods, field data analysis and interpretations using cutting-edge technology. The focus is on developing essential skills for conducting archaeological surveys, learning excavation strategies, classifying artifacts, and understanding dating techniques. The course provides a solid foundation for professional archaeology and cultural heritage management practice that is helpful for the

preservation and understanding of archaeological sites and world heritage. The focus areas of the program are basic of archaeology, field Archaeology, Archaeological Sciences, Prehistory of India and the World, Experimental Archaeology, Historical Archaeology, Digital Archaeology, Buddhist Archaeology, Ethnoarchaeology, Epigraphy and Numismatics, Art and Architecture, Environmental Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Management studies. The experts from various Indian and foreign Universities/organization/institutes are invited to undertake lectures as per the course requirements.
