COURSE OBJECTIVE:
After completing the Certificate Course in Disaster Management
- Understand various hazards:
Hydro-meteorological, Tectonic, Biophysical, Technological - Develop a concept of Disaster Cycle Management.
- Risk reduction assessment.
- Prevention and mitigation standards.
- Community preparedness and Expedite reconstruction and rehabilitation.
COURSE OUTLINE:
- This course is designed as a set of tools and techniques that can be used in times of environmental disasters. An introductory lecture on the morphology of natural and technological is indispensable, for each morphological category of hazards case studies would be discussed in detail.
- Natural hazards Hydro-meteorological (Cyclone, Floods, Droughts, Flash Floods, landslides).
- Tectonic hazards (Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Mass wasting).
- Technological hazards – Oil Spills by tankers, Oil fire at the site of exploration, radiation, biological and chemical hazards, engineering disasters.

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

- Understanding of the classification of disasters. Highlight global dimensions of disasters.
- Understanding the concept of financial arrangements for disaster management.
- Discuss the concept and significance of a disaster preparedness plan.
- Describe the essentials of an effective disaster preparedness plan.
- Critically evaluate the seismic zone and human settlement.
- Arrange national and international aid.
