Post-doctoral Scholar

Stanford University, USA

Dr. Michael Dioha is a Senior Energy System Analyst at Clean Air Task Force. His work revolves around energy-environment-economic modelling, energy policy and planning, and interdisciplinary energy and climate justice issues. Currently, he is developing and demonstrating methods for incorporating non-techno-economic factors and uncertainty into energy system models.

Michael was a postdoctoral research scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University, where he researched the value of electric vehicles in electricity systems in an idealized context. Michael has worked on many international projects with people from different backgrounds. He plays advisory and analysis roles for international organizations, including the International Renewable Energy Agency. He has published several scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals and professional engagements with stakeholders in international energy symposiums. A dynamic energy engineer Dioha’s thematic area focuses on the development of integrated energy system models to project energy supply-demand mixes, associated costs, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over a long-term planning horizon for a defined jurisdiction. He also applies these models to assess energy efficiency improvement, the implementation of renewable energy, and the implementation of advanced energy conversion technologies.

Michael is a Senior Fellow of the Just Transition Network, a Fellow of the Energy for Growth Hub, and a Fellow of the Solar Energy Society of Nigeria. He advocates for innovative approaches that promote inclusive and just socioeconomic developments in the global south. Dioha holds a Ph.D. degree in Energy and Environment from the TERI School of Advanced Studies, India, and a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (First Class Honours) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. When Dioha is not engaged with issues relating to sustainable energy development, he enjoys playing football, hiking, and cycling.
