Dr. Pankaj Goyal

After completing his post-graduation in zoology from Kumaun University, Nainital, Pankaj Goyal earned a Post-Graduate Diploma in Ancient Indian History, Culture, and Archaeology from Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute in Pune. In 2012, he received his Ph.D. from Deccan College in Pune, where he worked under Prof. P.P. Joglekar. He has worked on faunal remains from sites in Gujarat, Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. His scholarly contributions span a broad spectrum, encompassing archaeozoology, past human-animal interactions, the Himalayan medicine system, and traditional knowledge systems. In addition to presenting his research findings in various national and international conferences, he has over 50 research publications in major national and international journals. He has also written a number of popular articles on the website www.indianscience.org about the history of Indian science and technology. He co-authored a book with Prof. P.P. Joglekar titled Animal Husbandry and Allied Technologies in Ancient India. He has recently authored a new book titled “Animal-based Subsistence of the Harappan Culture in Gujarat with Special Reference to Kanmer.”, and has also co-edited two volumes’ Animals in Archaeology: Integrating Landscapes, Environment and Humans in South Asia (A Festschrift for Prof. P.P. Joglekar)’. He also works as an associate editor for Man and Environment, a leading periodical for archaeology in India.
