
Dr. Parth R. Chauhan
Dr. Parth R. Chauhan is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department at IISER Mohali. He holds a Ph.D. in Archaeology from the University of Sheffield, an M.A. in Archaeology & Ancient History from Deccan College, Pune, and a B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in History from Rutgers University, USA. His research focuses on Indian Prehistory, stone tools, vertebrate palaeontology, rock art, and palaeoanthropology. He currently leads the Narmada Basin Paleoanthropology Project, which explores patterns of human occupation and adaptations over the past million years while searching for additional hominin fossils. His work also includes research on human evolutions, study on the Siwalik Hills, study of the microlithic stone tools from a cave in Konkan, Maharashtra, and ostriches in the Tapi Basin. His broader interests include flintknapping and experimental archaeology to understand ancient technologies and material use. At IISER Mohali, he teaches various courses on archaeology, Prehistory, palaeoanthropology, and ancient technologies, often incorporating field and lab-based methods.
