EAS Conclave of Higher Education Leaders and Knowledge Exchange Workshop 2025 September 17–19, 2025 | Nālandā University, Rajgir
Nalanda University proudly hosted the inaugural East Asia Summit (EAS) Conclave of Higher Education Leaders and Knowledge Exchange Workshop 2025, a three-day international gathering that brought together distinguished delegates, academics, and policymakers from East Asia and India. Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS–New Delhi), and TERI, the conclave embodied Nalanda’s enduring mission of fostering dialogue, sustainability and international cooperation in education.
The conclave was inaugurated by Shri Periasamy Kumaran, Secretary (East), MEA, in the presence of Ms. Nabanita Chakrabarti, Joint Secretary (MEA), and eminent academic leaders. Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, in his welcome address, highlighted Nalanda’s philosophy of oneness and sustainability, the convergence of humanities and sciences, and the need to blend ancient Asian wisdom with modern innovation.
Over the three days, several thematic sessions and roundtables were held. The first day witnessed discussions on “Strengthening India–East Asia Educational Collaboration”, chaired by Professor Govindan Rangarajan (IISc Bengaluru) and co-chaired by Professor Ngo Thi Phuong Lan (Vietnam National University). Speakers deliberated on enhancing research partnerships, student exchanges, and the harmonisation of educational frameworks. The second day focused on “Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Through Education”, chaired by Professor Sachin Chaturvedi, with participation from international experts, including Ms Mikiko Tanaka (UN ESCAP). The sessions explored the roles of universities in driving climate action, inclusivity, digital literacy, and ethical leadership.
The conclave also witnessed the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Nalanda University and leading institutions from India and East Asia. A cultural evening celebrating India’s performing arts and student performances added vibrancy to the academic discourse.
The EAS Conclave 2025 reaffirmed Nalanda University’s growing role as a regional and global hub for collaborative education and sustainable development. The dialogues highlighted the importance of integrating traditional wisdom with modern innovation, strengthening institutional linkages, and fostering people-to-people connectivity across East Asia. Participants emphasized that universities must become catalysts for responsible lifestyles, inclusive growth, and environmental stewardship. The conclave concluded with a shared commitment to continue building an Asia of partnerships and purpose, guided by the timeless ethos of Nalanda, where learning transcends boundaries and knowledge serves humanity.
