Engaging the World: Nālandā’s Voice in Global Dialogues
In July 2025, Nālandā University strengthened its global presence through a series of high-level dialogues that reflected its commitment to knowledge diplomacy, sustainability and South–South cooperation.
On July 16, Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi engaged in a profound discussion with Professor Robert Thurman of Columbia University and Ambassador Binaya S. Pradhan on “Reimagining Buddhism for the 21st Century.” The dialogue explored integrating the Nalanda tradition into modern education through a Dharma-based curriculum that unites ethical wisdom with contemporary scientific inquiry.
Continuing this intellectual outreach, on July 17 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Professor Chaturvedi met with India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Shri Parvathaneni Harish, to deliberate on India’s transformative role in South–South and Triangular Cooperation. The conversation emphasized how Nālandā University could emerge as a global hub for knowledge partnerships, policy research, and sustainable development for the Global South.
Rounding off these international engagements, on July 19, Professor Chaturvedi participated in a World Bank discussion on the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). He highlighted the importance of inclusive connectivity frameworks and strategic linkages that could redefine development cooperation and empower emerging economies.
These dialogues have drawn attention to Nālandā University’s evolving role as a bridge between civilizations, reviving ancient wisdom to inform global policy, fostering ethical leadership, and advancing India’s vision of a connected, cooperative and sustainable world.
