Scholarships offered at Nalanda University are comprehensive, providing substantial support to deserving recipients. The university belief that a world-class education should be accessible to every admitted student who aspires to attend.

Scholarships

At Nalanda University, scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential of the candidate. They will cover partial or full coverage of course fees and may include a grant for travel and accommodation throughout the program’s duration. The eligibility criteria for different scholarships vary; some are accessible to a broad spectrum of Master’s program students, while others are contingent upon specific characteristics such as program stream/subject or country of residence.

Nalanda University Scholarships

At Nalanda University, scholarships are usually awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential. The University provides scholarship support to the students in the form of merit scholarships.

Merit Scholarship

The overriding objective of Nalanda University is to serve as a ‘bridge and foundation’ in linking India with the world through the knowledge route. Merit scholarships reward the academic excellence. A limited number of scholarships are awarded to the meritorious students.

Who can apply?

Merit scholarships are offered to the class toppers. Toppers securing 8.0 semester grade point and above will be eligible for the Merit scholarship. Based on the scholarship committee recommendations, one topper per Programme will be awarded Merit scholarship. If you secure highest grade point in a semester (SGPA), you will be awarded scholarship in the subsequent semester.

What does it cover?

This Scholarship will cover the tuition fee of the program.

ICCR Scholarships

These scholarships are offered by the ICCR, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. Students from 140 countries are eligible to apply for the ICCR scholarship.

Who can apply?

What does it cover?

This Scholarship will cover admission fee, tuition fee and other compulsory fees. It will also covers the charges of residential accommodation. In addition, students will also get a monthly stipend to meet miscellaneous needs.

Study in India Programme

The Study in India is a flagship project of the Government of India, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of External Affairs, MHA, and MCI in April 2018. The program offers scholarships on an annual basis, while its partner institutes provide tuition fee waivers.

What does it cover?

The Study in India Scholarship scheme covers the admission fees, tuition fees, accommodation (room and boarding) costs, and food costs. Any costs and expenses outside the above mentioned are not considered under this scheme.

ASEAN Scholarship

These scholarships are provided by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India, through ASEAN-India Fund. Twenty scholarships per academic year are available for students from ASEAN Member States to pursue Master’s programmes at Nalanda University.

Who can apply?

If you are a student aspiring to study at Nalanda from ten countries from Southeast Asia who are ASEAN member states— Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam— you can apply for this scholarship.

What does it cover?

This scholarship will cover one time to-and-fro transportation expenses (including air fare). It will also cover academic related fee: application, one time admission, and tuition fee, and residential accommodation. In addition, students will also get contingency allowance, and a monthly stipend to meet meal charges and miscellaneous needs.

BIMSTEC Scholarship for Nalanda University

These scholarships were announced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji at the fourth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) summit held in Kathmandu in 2018. The scholarships to the students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand to pursue higher studies at Nalanda University.

Who can apply?

Students from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand who are aspiring to pursue higher studies at Nalanda University can apply for this scholarship.

What does it cover?

This scholarship will cover one time to-and-fro transportation expenses (including air fare). These scholarships are available under the “Thailand Fund for Nalanda University” set up by the Government of Thailand for supporting the studies of Thai nationals in the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions at Nalanda University.

Thai nationals who are aspiring to pursue higher studies at in the School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions at Nalanda University can apply for this scholarship.

What does it cover?

This scholarship will cover application fee, admission fee, tuition fee, security fee and fieldtrip costs. Round trip airfare is provided under this scholarship. Residential accommodation and meal charges will also be covered. In addition, students will also get an annual allowance to cover miscellaneous needs.
