Course Introduction:
The chief objective of this course is to teach Tibetan script and its various components at a basic level, to teach reading and writing skills through spelling and recognition of words, to teach the key components of basic sentence formation and types of structures etc. The course would begin with the brief introduction of Thonmi Sambhota who created the new system of Tibetan scripts, including the significance of learning Tibetan and its relation with Ancient Nalanda Tradition. Though the historical trajectory of Tibetan as a system of connecting bridge between Tibetan Buddhism and Ancient Nalanda Tradition would find a place in the course, the major emphasis would be to provide a comprehensive understanding of the basic Tibetan language, focusing on recognition of letters, basic writing, commonly used words, basic grammar, basic reading and communication.
Objective :
By the end of this teaching, students will be able to develop a basic proficiency in reading and writing in Tibetan language, build a vocabulary of commonly used words, understand how to make simple sentences and their different structures and phrases. They will gain a cultural and historical appreciation of the Tibetan language and its significance, and learn the proper pronunciation and basic communications.
