Course Introduction:

Yoga is one of the oldest sciences in the world, originating in India. Yoga, an ancient cultural heritage of India, is essentially experiential and transcendental. What was once, in ancient times, practised by a few seekers who stayed in secluded places away from social life, has now become an academic pursuit and is included in the curriculum of schools, colleges and Universities. Yoga is practiced to improve adaptability, increase intelligence, improve learning ability, increase orderliness of thought, improve job performance and satisfaction, find solace in the form of alternative therapy, and most importantly, to achieve universal brotherhood and harmony. The principles of yoga, when properly followed, cultivate excellence at all levels of human existence. One of the most important by-products of the yogic way of life is the achievement of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health and a sense of well-being. This is achieved by harmonizing the psychological functions with the physiological functions of the body-emotion-mind complex. This course focuses on teaching it as a complete science system. Yoga can be applied in one’s life regardless of age, gender, profession, state, condition, problem or disease. It can be part of any human endeavour, personal, professional, social, familial, and spiritual. This course teaches the theoretical and practical aspects of yoga. Based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, this course introduces the general framework of Indian philosophy and the basic concepts of yoga.
