Hon'ble Prime Minister of Bhutan visited Nalanda University
September 3, 2025
Nalanda is the world’s oldest and most profound center of higher learning. It is the land of great masters such as Guru Padmasambhava, Naropa, and Vairochana, whose teachings shaped Bhutan’s religion, philosophy, and culture, even the Dzongkha script of Bhutan traces its origins to India.”

Nalanda University had the honour of hosting Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bhutan, H.E. Dasho Tshering Tobgay, on September 3, 2025. He was warmly welcomed by Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi. In his welcome address, Professor Chaturvedi highlighted Nalanda’s guiding philosophy of oneness with nature, development, and peace, and reflected on Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness as deeply resonating with Nalanda’s vision of harmony, sustainability, and collective well-being.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister described Nalanda as the world’s oldest and most profound centre of higher learning and acknowledged the enduring influence of ancient Nalanda on Bhutan’s religion, philosophy, and culture. He interacted with students in an engaging session marked by warmth and enthusiasm, while Bhutanese students extended a heartfelt welcome. The visit concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts symbolizing Nalanda’s heritage of peace and timeless wisdom.
