Nalanda Students at International Conference on Climate Science

Two students from the Class of 2017 at the School of Ecology and Environment Studies: Abinash Mohanty and Kundan Sagar, presented their paper at The International Conference on Climate Science organised by the Interdisciplinary Climate Research Centre (ICRC), Cotton College, Guwahati and co-hosted by Kyoto university and ICEDS Kagawa University, Japan on March 8, 2016. The title of their paper was: “Debating Development: A Reality or Myth: Evaluation of climate change resilience in Bihar.”

The main objective of students’ paper was to access the advent of information assimilation to build in climate change resilience and calamity preparedness. Through their presentation the duo demonstrated possible holistic approaches in understanding the climate change effects on environment, socio-economic status of under developed states in general and Bihar in particular.

The two-day conference in Guwahati which began on March 7, 2016 shared the theme: Frontiers of Climate Research to Enhance Cooperation of Climate Information and Services for Sustainable Development Planning in North East India. There were presentations by researchers and research scholars from across the globe. The conference had Prof Prasant Goswami, Director, NISTADS, Dr Ajit Tyagi, India’s permanent representative for World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and Prof T Hayashi from Kyoto University, Dr Melvil Pereira, Director, NESRC, Guwahati; Toru Terao, Kagawa University, Japan; Prof Hiambock J Syiemlieh, NEHU, Shillong; Dr Subashisa Dutta, IIT, Guwahati, Dr KV Ramesh, CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute, Bangalore, Dr Fumie Murata, Kochi University, Japan; Dr Yusuke Yamane, Tokoha University, Japan; ML Khan, Dr Harising Gaur Central University, Madhya Pradesh; Anup Saikia, Gauhati University; Kaiash Chand Pandey, GEAG, Gorakhpur and Dr Azusa Fukushima, Kobe Gakuin University, Japan and other guest presenters.

The presentation by Nalanda students was appreciated at the conference by the co-presenters and audience. The paper is currently under review for the publication and might soon be published by the Oxford University Press.
