NU Faculty Dr. Pushpa Kumar Lakshmanan trains Ayurvedic Drug Producers and Media Representatives on Biodiversity Laws

Dr. Pushpa Kumar Lakshmanan, Associate Professor, School of Ecology and Environment Studies, Nalanda University was invited to be the lead speaker in the Sensitisation Progamme on the Biological Diversity Act (2002) and Access and Benefit Sharing Provisions for Ayurvedic Drug Producers and Media Representatives held on April 19-20, 2017 in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. 

This two-day programme was organised by the Odisha State Biodiversity Board and had representatives from Ayurvedic drug manufacturing companies, traditional medical practitioners, research scholars and media correspondents who cover environment.

The purpose of this programme was to spread the message of biodiversity conservation and the mechanism of access and benefit sharing under the Biological Diversity Act to the Ayurvedic Drug Producers and the traditional medical practitioners who are the major users of biological resources. The media sensitisation programme was the first of its kind organised by the Odisha State Biodiversity Board with an aim to provide first-hand information and case studies on the Biological Diversity Act and Access and Benefit Sharing Provisions. This was done with the aim of informing and sensitising the media to cover and disseminate related news in the right perspective.
