Prof Sunaina Singh Takes Charge as Vice-Chancellor of Nalanda University

Professor Sunaina Singh the former Vice Chancellor of The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad took over as the Vice Chancellor of Nalanda University, Rajgir earlier today.
Professor Singh took over the charge from Professor Pankaj Mohan, the Interim Vice Chancellor and Dean, School of Historical Studies at Nalanda University.
After assuming charge, Professor Singh met some officials of the University and discussed issues related to administration as well as academics. She said, “My goal would be to rebuild a historically and internationally acclaimed institution such as Nalanda-a challenge which will drive me to establish a globally impeccable academic profile of Nalanda University. The effort will be to realise the vision of the University as stated in the Preamble.”
Professor Pankaj Mohan while handing over charge expressed pleasure and said, “The University is in great hands with Professor Sunaina Singh who wields vast administrative experience. I wish her all the best.”
In the evening, a dinner was hosted in her honour at Ajatshatru Residence Hall, where she met the Nalanda Community.
As the head of a Central University, Professor Sunaina Singh is among the most prominent women Vice Chancellors in the South Asian region. A distinguished academician and administrator, she also holds the position of Vice President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). She has the distinction of being the first Indian woman to head as the President of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, the bi-national research institution with headquarters in New Delhi and Calgary under the MHRD and Canadian Government. Professor Singh brings with her a rich blend of scholarship, professional integrity, and administrative competence.
Her impeccable and proven track record as an able and visionary administrator has enabled her to excel in her leadership role, a fact acknowledged by the many prestigious awards she has won including Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education, 2014 and 100-Most Influential Vice Chancellors, 2016 (World Education Congress). Prof. Sunaina Singh currently, a member of several national and international Academic committees, is engaged in the challenging task of restructuring and redesigning university pedagogical and administrative systems.
