15th Finance Commission Visits Nalanda University, NK Singh Compliments VC For Accelerating Construction Of New Campus

Shri NK Singh, Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission appreciated the giant strides forward being taken by the Nalanda University in the construction work of the New Campus under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunaina Singh. He was speaking after a presentation made by Prof. Sunaina Singh about the University to the Finance Commission who visited the new campus site as part of their visit to Bihar. He said he was looking forward to seeing classes being conducted in the new campus early next year. He appreciated the efforts of the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar ji and the State government machinery for supporting cause of setting up this iconic university. He was also happy to note that an additional 100 acres will be allotted by the State Government for commercial use to generate funds for the University. Mr. Singh also happens to be on the Governing Board of the Nalanda University

Earlier, Prof. Sunaina Singh made a presentation to the Members of the Finance Commission on the progress being made by the University not only in the construction area but also in introducing new academic roadmap, opening a new School of Languages, Reaching out to the villages in the neighborhood, Administrative reforms, opening health centre for students and staff, norms for financial transparency and so on. Five buildings are coming up to house the administration and academic blocks by early next year to enable shifting of the campus. Prof.Singh also presented the Commission the status of enhancement of the academic programs as well as number of students starting from 12 in 2014 to the current year numbering more than three hundred. She said four research centres will be established and PhD programmes will commence in 2019. The university is also supporting locals by employing them in various capacities.

Prof. Singh wound up saying that the aim was to complete the construction by 2020 and introduce as many as four more schools by the time the campus is ready.

The Members of the Finance Commission team included luminaries like Former Revenue Secretary, GoI, Shri Shaktikanta Das, Prof Anoop Singh, Adjunct Professor,Georgetown University, Washington DC and Dr. Ashok Lahiri,Former Economic Advisor to GoI. They planted saplings to mark the occasion in the new campus before heading back to Patna.
