Nalanda University’s Second Convocation was graced by Hon’ble President of India and Visitor of Nalanda University Smt. Droupadi Murmu along with Hon’ble Governor of Bihar Lt. Gen. Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd.); Hon’ble External Affairs Minister of India Dr S. Jaishankar; and Hon’ble Rural Development & Transport Minister, Government of Bihar Shri Shrawon Kumar.
Nalanda University marked a historic milestone as Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu graced and addressed its Second Convocation Ceremony as the chief guest at the Rajgir campus. The occasion celebrated the University’s continued journey of revival, global engagement, and its commitment to shaping future-ready leaders rooted in values and knowledge traditions.
In her address, the Hon’ble President described the convocation as a reaffirmation of India’s enduring civilisational ethos, where knowledge sustains, dialogue guides, and learning is devoted to the service of humanity. Marking the occasion, she planted a sacred Peepal tree, inaugurated the state-of-the-art 2000- seater ‘Visvamitralaya’ auditorium (meaning “a friend to the world”), and formally opened the Sahabhagita Exhibition, while also commending the University’s Sahabhagita Samvada initiative.
The ceremony celebrated graduates from over 30 countries, with degrees awarded to 606 Master’s students and 10 PhD scholars (2016–2025), alongside 36 gold medals.
A replica of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, obtained from the ruins of ancient Nalanda was presented to Hon’ble President as a souvenir.
